Cascina Canée
Canée in the local dialect means "cane thicket", a characteristic component of the lake flora.
Built at the end of the 19th century, Cascina Canée is a typical Lombard farmhouse with large stone walls. It was an agricultural property with fruit trees, cattle and vineyards until its renovation in 2003. This refurbishment enhanced the original structure through the use of local materials, respecting the architectural style of the area and the rural environment in which it sits.
The owners Fabio and Giovanna have cultivated a passion for cooking since childhood: Fabio helped his grandmother in her country house and Giovanna, originally from Venice, frequented the "bacari" (typical Venetian taverns) with her father. Even during their previous life in the world of technology, they continued their love of good food and wine, attending professional level courses and acquiring techniques and skills at all levels. Also, with all the business travel they did, they had the opportunity to visit some of the best restaurants in Italy and the rest of the world.
After having lived and worked in the hospitality industry in South Africa for the past ten years, in both the hotel and the restaurant sectors, they have returned to Italy to create this environment where the best of Italian cuisine and hospitality are offered in a creative, relaxing and fun way.
Located at the end of a rural road in the hills overlooking the valley below, Cascina Canée offers a splendid view of the Rocca Borromeo which was built in the 12th century. Its large garden, with areas reserved for guests, borders on a woodland of locust trees and acacias.
The farmhouse is on several levels, with large common areas that ensure space and privacy with free wi-fi available throughout. On the ground floor, a large open plan kitchen is available to those who attend the cookery classes, plus a dining room with an imposing fireplace built from the steps recovered from a church from the 1400s and a living area welcoming guests for dinners and breakfasts.
On the first floor, the reading room is an ideal space to relax with a good book and a glass of wine.
Cascina Canée has four en-suite bedrooms, each one characterized by a different mix of ancient and modern elements, resulting in a particular ambience.
